Be Careful of Becoming Polluted. Dan 1:1-17 New International Version (NIV)

Be Careful of Becoming Polluted!!!

Dan 1: 1-17 NIV

Purpose:          Become self-aware of the contamination of this world in our lives.

1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.

And the Lord delivered Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, along with some of the articles from the temple of God. These he carried off to the temple of his god in Babylonia[a] and put in the treasure house of his god.

Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, chief of his court officials, to bring into the king’s service some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility—

young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians.[b]

The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine from the king’s table. They were to be trained for three years, and after that they were to enter the king’s service.

Among those who were chosen were some from Judah: Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.

The chief official gave them new names: to Daniel, the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.

But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.

Now God had caused the official to show favor and compassion to Daniel,

10 but the official told Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has assigned your[c] food and drink. Why should he see you looking worse than the other young men your age? The king would then have my head because of you.”

11 Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah,

12 “Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.

13 Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.”

14 So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.

15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food.

16 So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.

17 To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.

Be Careful of Becoming Polluted!!!

Dan 1: 1-17 NIV

Purpose:         Become self-aware of the contamination of this world in our lives.

Do you know what a change is? Change has different definitions, but the definition that hit me the most was to pass gradually.[1] To change gradually.  This definition really strikes me because the great majority of the time, our understanding of change is something that occurs right away, because we are living in a very fast culture. But the reality is that change easily happens as a gradually event!!! Because change comes into our lives and we don't recognize it. For example, a college student changes gradually from one semester to another. This student needs to be responsible for himself in all the areas of his life. Life in his/her parents’ house has stopped, at least for his/her life in college. In this case, the student has embraced the change of growing and become more mature. He/she becomes responsible for himself/herself. One important thing to notice is that this student doesn't notice the change until someone points it out. The change is already engraved in her/him. That is why he/she doesn't notice it.

On the other hand, change has the potential to introduce a negative attitude which becomes a contaminant and toxic into our lives. For instance, another student is recently attending in college by him/herself, and this student chooses not to be responsible. Then she/he is going to fail and probably has to come back home with a big inner disappointment, inner crash, and no diploma.

So a change is fruitful and productive when it is a reassuring force of our morals and ethics, especially for us serious and committed Christians. For example, now with the new ministry of Room in the Inn or the Bible Study on Wednesdays, we, as a church, are going to be part of helping the less privileged in our community and we, as a church, are coming together and growing in grace, in the knowledge of God. How? In the case of the homeless, we are going to provide them with food, a secure place to spend the night, and the gift of our presence, time, and full attention. In the case of the Bible study of Wednesdays, we are coming together to know ourselves better, to know each other better, and mainly to become more mature Christians. For us, the church, it is going to be easy because we have changed for the good. WE are giving fruit. We are getting ready to become more and more like Jesus and try to be His presence in this broken world.

Now, change can be negative, when it is harmful, when it is against our Christian moral and ethics and beliefs; for example, going back to the example of the Room in the Inn, if as a church, we know that we have the capacity to help but we don't want to do it, because we don't want to be in contact with the homeless because they can smell bad or they look unpleasant. Or in the case of the Bible study, we say, "No, I don't want to leave my house, it is more comfortable watch the drama on TV. Then the change that we experience is a harmful and toxic change. It is when we become polluted.  Truly speaking, at the end of the day, who is going to hurt the most? It is going to be us, because God is going to send another church to do what we didn't want to do.

Pay attention that in order to experience a change in our lives, there has to be a reason, a thing, a person, a situation, an event that comes to our encounter and initiates the change, because changes don't happen out of nowhere. We don't wake up today and decide to go to the streets looking for homeless people and bring them to the church. No, changes can be the response to a need, the need to be more mature Christians for the transformation of this world through the communal study and to be the presence of Christ helping homeless people.

This is what is happening in the text. This was happening to Daniel. He and his friends were experiencing a big situation in their lives that forced them to change. They were taken from their mother land to a foreign land. The Babylonians conquered Judah. They took the best of Judah. They took the best of the treasure of the temple of the LORD and offered to their Babylonian god. They took the best of the people of Judah and forced them to be incorporated to the court of the Babylonian king.

It is clear that Daniel had a relationship with God to the point that he was a prophet, a person who delivers a message from God to the people. He, Daniel, was wise, because he talked about everything with God. We need to keep in mind two important things: (1) human nature has not changed. That means that Daniel had the same weaknesses and temptations that we have today. Yes, we have the same inclinations and temptations as the ancient people; (2) the conquerors of this time in history were not as some books or movies or 21st century scholars have interpreted them. The text is telling us that they were having very good conditions in the exile because they were going to be part of the royal court. They were going to be part of an elite class which has power and influence. Power and influence has the potential to change a person, if their convictions are not pure and strong enough to face big changes. That is why power and influence can be as dangerous as pollution, because they can contaminate our selves, our mind, and our souls.

So, carefully, Daniel decides not become polluted by the change, because Daniel believes and trusts in the Only God who is capable of helping him for a good growing experience with the change in his life. In the text also, we see the faithfulness of God, when Daniel decides not to become polluted or contaminated with the food of the Babylonian king. God delivers him. God gives him strength and wisdom and a healthy look. In all of these things, God helps Daniel to keep himself pure from pollution and to navigate at peace in an overwhelmingly changing society.

Until now, we have witnessed the faithfulness, the love, the care, the healing, and the deliverance of God for Glendale UMC, in our individual lives and in the life of the church. Therefore, my dear ones, we need to keep the bad stuff out of our lives. We don't want to become polluted or contaminated. We want to keep growing in maturity, faith, and understanding of God and helping Him to change the world in the way that we have been doing it.

Do not let any kind of change contaminate us. Let’s keep ourselves pure and together.

         Let us pray,

          Dear and Good Father

We have decided not let pollution contaminate us. Help us to keep ourselves, our families, and our church growing in Your understanding and  obedience. In this way we are going to influence the world for good and a fruitful change out of contamination.

In Jesus name.
Amen.

Stay Clear Lk 8:22-25; Matt 14:22-33 New International Version (NIV)

Stay Clear

Luke 8:22-25; Matt 14: 22-33 NIV

Purpose:         If we want to become Jesus Christ in blood and flesh, how is that that we get                          discourage for things that happen in our lives.

Luke 8:22-39

22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out.

23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.

24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.

25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.

In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”

Matthew 14: 22-33

22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd.

23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone,

24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.

30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.

33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

This is the Word of God,

for the people of God.

Praise be to

God. Amen

Stay Clear

Luke 8:22-25; Matt 14: 22-33 NIV

Purpose:         If we want to become Jesus Christ in blood and flesh, how is that that we get                          discourage for things that happen in our lives.

I always have been curious about what a storm is. According to some research a storm is a disturbance of a normal condition of the atmosphere, manifesting itself by winds of unusual force, often accompanied by rain, snow, hail, thunder, and lightening. In the case of a dessert flying sand or dust. Storms generally lead to negative impacts on lives and property such as flooding, heavy lightening, and wildfires.[1] Storms are created when a center of low pressure develops with a system of high pressure surrounding it. In the center is a light pressure but the forces outside are applying greater pressure. The combination of this opposing forces can create winds and result in the formation of a storm.

That means, a storm starts when in a calm place with a low pressure encounter high pressure outside of it normal environmental circumstances.

Also, it is important to know that not all the storms are the same. No, they are very different. There are storms that are for winter, they included snow. They can be very dangerous because of the cold weather. There is a storm call dust devil is a small little storm. There are the thunderstorm this storm is very painful because brings thunder and lightening. The thunderstorms are very common around the world.

I am sure that you know the parallel that Jesus was not just teaching, He was actually living it with His disciples. Jesus was showing them how to live in a middle of a storm, calm, peaceful and never get discourage. Jesus was sleeping in the middle of a storm. How is that that Jesus was able, was capable, and was willing to sleep in the middle of a storm with any kind of protection. He was totally exposed to the storm. Why??? I think it was because Jesus was at peace with Himself and He knew that the Father was taking care of Him and His disciples.

Pay attention that the storm starts when two different kinds of pressures encounter each other and clash. Outside of ourselves, it is impossible to control anything, the government, the economy, the environment, the decisions of our spouse or children. What we really can control is never become discourage  when results in life are not in the way we have expected.  We cannot allow ourselves to become negative, pessimistic, and distrust people. This is not going to happen to us.

Just look at the example of Jesus, and again, He was living the example. In one of the stories says to His disciples, "Let us go over the other side of the lake." So, they got into a boat and set out. They were obedient to Jesus command. They didn't hesitate to obey. However, when the storm came, they were terrified to the point that they didn't care that Jesus was in front of them . . . sleeping . It was not enough for them. They wake Him up. "Master, Master, we are going to drown!"

In the two stories of today, there are some common elements

          1) The disciples are following Jesus directions. Jesus has said, "Let us go to the other side" and "Let go ahead of me." In both stories they are very      obedient to Jesus' Will.

          2) Again fear is in the picture of lives. They were terrified.

          3) When fear appears they start doubting. They want to give up. They get           discourage!!!

Pay close attention in the next point,

          4) Jesus was present with them the entire time. One Jesus was sleeping and   in the other Jesus reaches them walking on the water.

I think Jesus was a little frustrated, because in the Scripture shows in exclamation marks Where is your faith!!! and Take courage.

Yes, Jesus was expecting them to be afraid. Yes, Jesus was expecting them to call Him. What Jesus was not expecting them was to get discourage on their mission, on their lesson, on their lives. How many times , we want to through everything out, to quit, to get discourage. It is there, it is there, when we allow the external pressure of this world to start putting us down, to start doubting about Jesus' presence when we are in the middle of the storm, to start questioning God's Will and directions of whatever He already commanded us to do.

I am convinced that Jesus was surprise even sad of the disciples reaction. They easily could get discourage if Jesus was not in front of them. How many times, we know, we know that Jesus is inside us, right here on our side, and we get discourage. Perhaps, we start thinking,  this is too much for u, for our church, for me to accomplish. This is too much to expect from this fallen world, and this is too scary.

So, why the disciples were so afraid? Why did they doubt even when Jesus was in front of them? Because they didn't stay clear.

Take for example an Olympic swimmer, Michael helps. He has experienced inner pressure to some degree because it is the force to keep you going, plus the outside pressure that it is tremendous. The pressure from the coach, the pressure from the public, the pressure from his family and friends, the pressure of the entire America because all of us have high expectation on him. However, I can assure that the great majority of the time, Michael Phelps doesn't allow the outside pressure overwhelming him.

Actually, he had a hard experience in Beijing, he says, "In Beijing, when my goggles filled with water, I didn't panic. I went back to all my training> I knew how many strokes it takes me to get up and down the pool, so I started counting my strokes. I didn't reach the time I was aiming for, but I did win the race."[2] Michael Phelps knew how to stay clear.

So, again, how we can become capable to succeed with pressures in our lives and when the storm comes how we can avoid get discourage. Well, we need to do what Jesus did.

1)      Stay clear that the pressure of outside is NOT going to affect our                       behavior, our reactions because we are going to remain clear and                      calm.

2)       Stay clear of our identity. Who we are, we are Olympic champions for    the Kingdom of God and stay clear who we want to become. We want to       become Christ in blood and flesh for this fallen world.

3)       Stay clear and positive in our achievements because in this way we don't          get discourage.

Truly speaking my dear ones, we have it easier than a lot of people because we know that God in Jesus is not going to leave us alone in our storms. Stay clear gives us the opportunity to feel the real, strong, and powerful presence of God who lives already inside us. Stay clear helps us to never get discourage in life. Stay clear gives us the assurance to sleep peacefully in the middle of the storms.

          Let us pray,

          Dear and Good Father

Thank You for being very present in our storms. Thank You for helping us never to get discourage even when the storms are very strong. Please help us to stay always clear of who You are, of who we are, and of whom we want to become.

In Jesus name, we pray.
Amen

Purpose:         If we are going to do something, then we have to do it rightly. We                                 have to give God the best of the best of our selves. Give God the 120%

Luke 1:39-56

39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea,

40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth.

41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!

43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.

45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

46 And Mary said:

“My soul glorifies the Lord
47     and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49     for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
    holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,
    from generation to generation.
51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
    remembering to be merciful
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”

56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home

John 6:60-71

Many Disciples Desert Jesus

60 On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”

61 Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you?

62 Then what if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before!

63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit[a] and life.

64 Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him.

65 He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”

66 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.

67 “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.

68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.

69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

70 Then Jesus replied, “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!” 71 (He meant Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, who, though one of the Twelve, was later to betray him.)

This is the Word of God,

for the people of God.

Praise be to God,

Purpose:         If we are going to do something, then we have to do it rightly. We                                 have to give God the best of the best of our selves. Give God the 120

Have you heard about the street markets in Mexico??? Let me explain you about them. During the week, the entire week, in all around Mexico, there is a kind of a practice that is part of the Mexican culture and folklore, it is the street markets. In this kind of markets you can find all kind of good things from good food, good veggies, good clothes, purses, make up, furniture, everything you can imagine and can access in any store around the country, and in some street markets have international items or even catalogs to order. Of course, you are not going to have a warranty for the product. You are taking a risk to get a great product for just a half or part of a regular price in the store. How is that possible??? How is that the street markets in Mexico can offer the same product that a established store just for a fraction of their price??? The answer is because the street market dealers don't pay taxes. That means, the vendors make a very good profits from the street markets.

But, the good profits of these vendors do not stop there, I think they have developed a kind of greediness, because it is very common that when one goes and buys fresh product or process product the scales are altered. Yes, they cheat on the weigh of the product. For example, you are paying for three kilos of apples, the equivalent of around seven ounces, when in reality they give you one or one and half ounce less of the product.

Comes the time when, you can think, "Ok, it is just one or one and half less ounce. There is not a big deal." I think there is a problem here. I call it, disloyalty [deceitfulness].

My dad used to tell me, "When you do something do it with all your heart. Give not your 100%. Give you 120!!!" What my dad was telling me was, when you have decided to do something do it rightly and with being loyal to yourself and to others.

The problem with cheating the scales involves not just lack of loyalty. It involves also not being honest. If we are paying the price that they are asking for the product, I think the honest and fair attitude is to get the right amount of product. Sadly, the disloyal and dishonest way of thinking and of course of acting, has been extended to another areas of Mexican life. For example, if you want a good education for your children then you enroll them in a private schools. These schools are very expensive. The owners of the private school exaggerate the prices and they deny a good quality of teaching. The same with the already established furniture stores and clothe stores. Can you see how not giving the 120 affects???

In the moment that Mary starts answering in the text, she was not just answering Elizabeth, mainly, she was answering God. She was telling God, "I am going to do whatever You have asked me to do, and I am going to give You not my 100%. I am going to give You my 120. I am going to be loyal and honest to You. I am going to carry Baby Jesus and I am going to do it well!!!"  Mary understood very well that God didn't need her. Mary understood that she was the one who was going to be blessed!!!

Actually, I think loyalty has been the same since the beginning of times, but we didn't have a name for it. Also, loyalty has a universal connotation, a universal meaning. To be loyal is the same in any language and with any group of people.

Even criminals have a good sense of the meaning of loyalty. They give their best to their bosses and professions. They are not honest but they are loyal. In fact, I am pretty sure t all of you are awarded of the drug problem in Mexico.

When you are invited to join a drug cartel, they give you a choice to join them or not, because once you have said, "Yes" then you have to give your everything to them, your 120%. They have a code of loyalty. They do not leave. They died for each other. They don't let any of them behind. They cover each other backs 24/7. On the other hand, there is a high risk with them. Surely enough, you cannot leave the group or the drug cartel, if  you leave them, then you will lose your life.

My dear ones, with God we don't have to join a drug cartel to find loyalty, with God we don't have to doubt about the right and fair amount of something we get from Him. God uses good and fair scales for our lives. God gives us an unconditional loyalty. God always gives not 100%, He gives 120.  Are we going to give Him our 120% and play fair to Him in return???

          Let us pray

          Dear and Good Father

You have showed us in Mary how to give You our best. You have showed us in Jesus how to be loyal and not desert You. Help us Father to give our 120% and be loyal to You every moment in our lives.

In Jesus name, we pray.
Amen

Do We Get It?? Lk. 9:28-43a New International Version (NIV)

Do We Get It?

Lk. 9:28-43a NIV

Purpose:         Never give up on ourselves or on anyone else.

The Transfiguration

28 About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray.

29 As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.

30 Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus.

31 They spoke about his departure,[a] which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem.

32 Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.

33 As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what he was saying.)

34 While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.

35 A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.”

36 When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. The disciples kept this to themselves and did not tell anyone at that time what they had seen.

37 The next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met him.

38 A man in the crowd called out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child.

39 A spirit seizes him and he suddenly screams; it throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth. It scarcely ever leaves him and is destroying him.

40 I begged your disciples to drive it out, but they could not.”

41 “You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.”

42 Even while the boy was coming, the demon threw him to the ground in a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the impure spirit, healed the boy and gave him back to his father.

43 And they were all amazed at the greatness of God.

Do We Get It???

Lk. 9:28-43a NIV

Purpose:         Never give up on ourselves or on anyone else.

Have you been in trouble or conflict when you try very hard to understand something? In my case, I get so frustrated that my English begins to stumble because I know, I am very capable to understand explanations, situations, and people but not at this moment. When I am in this situation, I need repetitions and that the person who is explaining needs to slow down in his/her speaking. I know myself. I can get it and everybody involves in the explanation needs to be patient.

Now, not always I have been in this way. I remembered when I was growing up that with my dad used to tell me, “Claudita, you are very intelligent, don’t tell me that you don’t understand such and such thing.” Of course, I didn’t want to disappoint my father, consequently, when I didn’t understand something I didn’t ask. This wrong perception placed me for years in many wrong situations, gave some bad grades and misunderstandings to the point that I started having panic attacks. I was so afraid to clarified and asked when I didn’t understand something. I just gave up.

Have you been in some similar situations? Have you understood everything through your life? Or you always get it? What about in your school years, or in your jobs, and with your spouse and children, with your parents and family members?

I bet that many other times, we have encountered people who are very, very smart but they cannot explain such and such concept. Then, they get very frustrated with us or with whoever doesn’t get it! Have you had the need to experience the learning of another language? When one is learning another language that is not the mother language, one can get very, very frustrated and upset to the point to almost quit talking. What about when we know that someone is two faces or hypocritical and we get it, a gut feeling tells us that this person manipulates very well but other people don’t get it. My point is, I have had the experienced and I have seen the great need of people for understanding the majority of other people and situations and teachings. This common need raises the question of why, why for us is so important to get it? Why for us is so essential to understand? I think because through our life, we have learned that misunderstandings can easily be very painful. I think, mainly when someone doesn’t get can betray us so bad. Maybe that is why there are so many divorces. When one spouse gets the importance of the seriousness of the covenant of the holy marriage and the other spouse doesn’t get it. If there is not a mutual understanding sooner or later they are going to end in a divorce.

So, I think that all of us can easily agree that no one in a healthy mind wants to be hurt, or wants to be cheated, no one wants to be misunderstood. We like transparency and honesty and understanding. We want to get it!!! Because, we consider ourselves rational beings, beings who like to use their mind to think, to analyze, to accomplish, and to explain.

However, and trying to put ourselves in the place when people don’t get it. What happens when people don’t get our explanations, or interpretations, or perceptions of something? We get frustrate, upset, and eventually we give up.  We don’t have patience, we don’t breathe or slow down and of course, eventually, we give up. We finish saying, “Ok. I can explain you later.”  Consequently, the other person feels dump and doesn’t want to ask again. Either way is uncomfortable, when we don’t get it or when other people doesn’t get it!!! It seems like it is one of this situations when is a lose-lose way.

Here is Jesus with His three closer disciples, Peter, John, and James. He took them to the top of a mountain to be with Him. Have you noticed that Jesus is always patience and gentle and always He wants to shows or teaches something?  Here is Jesus talking with God, and Moses and Elijah appear as part of this holy meeting. They are speaking very important things that are going to happen to Jesus. His departure. Jesus knows that He as a man, in blood and flesh, is going to leave them pretty soon. The crucifixion is coming closer and closer. And, His closer disciples don’t get it!!! First, they fell asleep. Second, one of them just started talking no sense. Peter wanted to be there. Actually, he suggested to build three shelters. I imagined that Jesus’ frustration was just getting bigger and bigger because Peter was serious. Not just, Jesus was amazed of Peter’s suggestion to be on the top of the mountain, because with such suggestion Peter not just showed his little understanding, he also showed the lack of interest for the other disciples who were on the bottom of the mountain waiting for Jesus. Jesus was also emotionally tired. I am talking in His humanity; can you just imagine the inner turmoil that Jesus had to experience of knowing that you are going to die in a few days. And your death is one of the cruelest and embarrassing ways to die.

I can warranty you that this attitude, of Peter, John, and James, hurt Jesus. Even though, Jesus was at some point unsatisfied, disappointed, and sad very sad, to the point to be hurt. He never, never quit or gave up on any of His beloved disciples. His disciples didn’t get it, that is why they couldn’t help the boy with the bad spirit.

If Jesus never gave up in any of His disciples. If Jesus never gives up in any of us. Do you think we have the moral and ethical responsibility to give up in ourselves or in another person??? No, I don’t think it is morally or ethically right to give up on any human being.

So, here we have a very difficult situation, if are not going to give up on any person, including ourselves, how are we going to handle all the people who we encounter and love and they don’t get it??? Well, the answer is in the text. When we get it, it is when we don’t give up on anyone else, then and just then God will use and will work through us amazing things for the fulfillment of His Will and the spreading of the Kingdom.

Let us pray,

Dear Father

Thank You for Your amazing grace and love in each one of us. You never give up on any of us. Help us to never give upon ourselves whatever is our situation and never give up of any of our human fellows. In Jesus name. We pray. Amen.
